Crispy Apple Puff Pastry Tarts
Elegant simplicity in pastry form. Thinly sliced, spiced apples rest on buttery puff pastry that rises into a golden, flaky border for a dessert that looks as good as it tastes.
Ingredients
- 11.6 oz puff pastry, rectangular sheet
- 3 crisp red apples, cored
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 large egg, beaten for egg wash
- Lemon juice, as needed
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
Slice apples thinly. Immediately toss with lemon juice to prevent oxidation.
Unroll chilled puff pastry. Cut into 8 equal rectangles.
With a knife tip, score a 0.4-inch border on each rectangle. Do not cut through the dough.
Combine apple slices with granulated sugar and cinnamon. Arrange the slices, overlapping, within the scored border of each pastry rectangle.
Brush the scored borders with the beaten egg. Cook at 355°F for 16 minutes, or until the pastry is risen and golden brown. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Chef's Tip
"Scoring a 0.4-inch border allows the edges to rise significantly, creating a defined crust around the apple filling."
