Homemade Crispy Hash Browns
Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Learn how to make authentic diner-style hash browns from scratch using fresh potatoes in your air fryer with just a drizzle of oil.
Ingredients
- 600 g starchy potatoes (e.g., Russet)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
Peel the potatoes and grate them coarsely using a box grater.
Crucial step: wrap the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze firmly to wring out as much excess water as possible.
Transfer to a mixing bowl and toss well with olive oil, cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
Shape into flat patties (about 1 cm or 0.5 inch thick) and place them in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
Cook at 190°C (375°F) for 15-20 minutes, flipping them gently halfway through until golden and super crispy.
Chef's Tip
"Squeezing the water out of the potatoes is the real secret. The drier the potatoes are before cooking, the crispier your hash browns will be!"
